Get Rid of Fleas - The Holistic Way

ARE YOU POISONING YOUR PET? USING SPOT-ON PRODUCTS IS HARMFUL TO YOUR PET!!!

In recent years, hundreds, if not thousands, of pets have been poisoned by pesticide products specifically designed for use on pets.

Each year, Americans purchase and apply to their pets a vast array of toxic chemicals intended to kill fleas and ticks. These products are designed to poison insects, and they usually do just that. But they can also poison pets and the people who handle them. Moreover, when these products are combined in the home, as they often are, with other toxic chemical products in common use -- pesticides, herbicides, and other products -- they can pose a serious health risk, especially to children. The topical remedies sold at pet stores are pesticides. Even though they may repel fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes, they will eventually be absorbed into your dog’s or cat’s body and could have a negative effect on the pet’s health. Remember, any pesticide can cause serious harm to your pet’s immune system.
For most pet owners, the family dog or cat is a beloved member of the family. Unfortunately, products often used to protect pets from fleas and ticks carry serious health hazards -- not just for the pets, but for the children who play with them, care for them, and love them. Safer alternatives are available -- alternatives that will effectively protect pets from insects without introducing intolerable health hazards into the home. Consumers, manufacturers, veterinarians, retailers and the government all have an important role to play in eliminating these risky pet products and bringing safer alternatives into common use.
Lawsuits proliferate against makers of topical flea and tick products. March 26, 2010. At least nine class-action lawsuits are pending against makers of topical flea and tick products in the wake of a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) investigation into safety of the pesticides used on dogs and cats.
One law firm in New Jersey has filed seven of the suits — one each against Merial Ltd., and its parent companies Merck & Co., Inc. and Sanofi-Aventis U.S., Inc., maker of Frontline; Summit VetPharm LLC and its parent company, Sumitomo Corp. of America, maker of Vectra; The Hartz Mountain Corp. and its parent, Sumitomo, maker of UltraGuard; Bayer Healthcare LLC, maker of Advantage and K9 Advantix; Sergeant’s Pet Care Products, Inc., maker of SentryPro; Farnam Companies, Inc., maker of Bio Spot and Adams; and Wellmark International, Inc., maker of Zodiac.

EPA Cautions Pet Owners Using Spot-on Flea and Tick Treatments for Pets - Apr 17, 2009. The US EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and Health Canada have commenced investigations into the use of spot-on flea and tick treatments for pets. Both agencies have seen an increase in reported incidents using spot-on flea treatments that are causing considerable concern to pet owners. Adverse reactions have ranged from minor skin irritations to seizures. In a number of cases, spot-on flea treatments have proven fatal to pets.
